Maamanithan release: Here's when the Vijay Sethupathi-starrer family drama will hit the screens

A few days ago, producer-turned-actor RK Suresh had announced that he has acquired the theatrical rights of Maamanithan, starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. Seenu Ramasamy has directed the movie; the project marks the fourth collaboration of the actor and the filmmaker, post Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, Idam Porul Yaeval and Dharma Durai.

The teaser of Maamanithan was unveiled a few months ago. Gayathrie, Guru Somasundaram, KPAC Lalitha, Anikha, Ganja Karuppu and Manasvi Kottachi among others essay notable roles in the film which has music composed by Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja together.

This is the first time the two have joined hands to compose music for a movie; Maamanithan has been produced by Yuvan's YSR Films Pvt Ltd. M Sukumar has handled cinematography for the family drama which has editing by Sreekar Prasad and art direction by Vijay Thennarasu.

RK Suresh has now announced that the film will have a theatrical release on May 6. The movie has been in the making for a while. Maamanithan was earlier in the news when many working stills from it were released when the team was shooting in Alleppey. Many crucial portions of the movie were shot in Kerala.  

Vijay Sethupathi's last theatrical release was Kadaisi Vivasayi (streaming on SonyLIV). His upcoming release is Vignesh Shivan's rom-com Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal which will hit the screens on April 28.

Following Maamanithan, he will have Lokesh Kanagaraj's Vikram, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead, releasing in theatres on June 3. He currently has half-a-dozen projects in his kitty, including his Bollywood debut Mumbaikar, which is the remake of Tamil hit film Maanagaram. Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai is another much-awaited film which movie buffs are looking forward to.
