To the delight of director Mari Selvaraj fans, the first-look poster of the film, Maamannan is all set to be out on May 1. The team also dropped a new poster from the film along with the announcement, in which Udhayanidhi Stalin and Vadivelu are seen facing each other.

While Udhayanidhi Stalin is playing the lead, it is said that ace comedian and actor Vagai Puyal Vadivelu is the real Maammannan of the film and his character is the titular one. Udhayanidhi had revealed in an interview that Vadivelu could bag many awards for his performance in the film. Mari Selvaraj had stated at an event that he always wanted Vadivelu to be part of his stories, and that he had been trying to include him in his films, right from his debut venture Pariyerum Perumal. The director had added that if Vadivelu didn't come on board, he would have dropped the project altogether.

Interestingly, the film marks Udhayanidhi's last project as an actor. Udhayanidhi had announced that Maamannan would be his last film after taking charge as the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development of Tamil Nadu.

The film also stars Fahadh Faasil and Keerthy Suresh. This is Udhayanidhi Stalin's maiden collaboration with Mari Selvaraj. Maamannan is a political thriller and one of the most-awaited films of the year. It is said that Mari Selvaraj shot the film for over 125 days. Music for the film is by AR Rahman and the ace composer had earlier expressed his happiness collaborating with Mari Selvaraj.

The digital rights of Maamannan have been bagged by Netflix. The theatrical release of the film will happen in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The film is being bankrolled by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies. Since this is his last film, expectations are high from the political thriller.
