The first single from Mari Selvaraj's Maamannan is finally here. The song, Raasa Kannu, sung by Vaigai Puyal Vadivelu marks his first ever single, set to the tunes composed by AR Rahman. The song's lyrics touch upon the discrimination and poverty faced by the oppressed communities in the region.

AR Rahman dropped a glimpse of the recording session in which he is watching Vadivelu sing the poignant number even as Mari Selvaraj looks on. As Theni Eswar's fantastic cinematography spans over the hilly terrains of Salem, the number aptly captures the pain of the oppressed.

Earlier, music composer AR Rahman had dropped the announcement that Vadivelu had sung a song in the film. He also shared pictures from the recording session and stated that the experience was a memorable one. Twitter went berserk as they trended the hashtag when 'Vaigai Puyal met Isai Puyal'.

Maamannan stars Udhayanidhi Stalin, Fahadh Faasil and Keerthy Suresh in the lead. The political drama, which is set in the western region of Tamil Nadu, revolves around caste politics and money power. The majority of the portions are shot in Salem. Maamannan marks Udhayanidhi's last film as an actor.

The director had revealed that he received a call from Udhayanidhi who stated that he was planning to stop working in films and that he wanted his last project to be with Mari Selvaraj. Mari Selvaraj was busy with the pre-production of Dhruv Vikram's film.

Later, Udhayanidhi requested Vikram and Dhanush (with whom Mari Selvaraj is collaborating for his next) and went ahead with his project.

The first-look poster of the  Selvaraj film had both Vadivelu and Udhayandihi Stalin perched on chairs. While Udhayanidhi is seen holding a sword and Vadivelu is holding a gun, both are seen in an intense avatar. The film is all set to hit screens in June.
