Mari Selvaraj's third project Maamannan managed to hit the headlines for various reasons ever since it was announced in 2021. The director roping in AR Rahman left film buffs thrilled; Vadivelu, Fahadh Faasil, Keerthi Suresh and Udhayanidhi coming together was celebrated by cinephiles.

Later, Udhay announced the movie will be his last outing as an actor after he was assigned a crucial role in Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's cabinet. He also opted out of a movie he had committed under Kamal Haasan's production.

Later, at the film's audio launch, Mari made a comment on the blockbuster Tamil movie Thevar Magan which didn't go down well with many movie enthusiasts. There were many who were waiting for Maamannan's release to find fault with his sensibilities despite him making two remarkable projects, Pariyerum Perumal and Karnan, earlier.

Upon its theatrical release a month ago, the film opened to good response and registered interesting figures at the box office in the initial days. Though there were a few who pointed out that it's his weakest work, the project went on to become the highest grosser in Udhay's career.

Maamannan is now gearing up for its digital premiere; the film bankrolled by Red Giant Movies is dropping on Netflix on July 27. Mari has appeared in a promo video unveiled by the OTT giant.

He's seen requesting the audience to watch the movie on the platform and expressed hopes on people showering the same love and support they provided during its theatrical release. The director will next direct Dhruv Vikram for a sports-based project. It was supposed to begin much earlier, but Udhay had requested the filmmaker to commence Maamannan first.
