Malavika Mohanan's third film in Tamil, Maaran, is set for a direct release on Disney+ Hotstar tomorrow at 5 pm. The actress, who has expressed happiness to have landed an interesting role in the Karthick Naren directorial, is making her Bollywood and Tollywood debut this year.

In a chat with us, she also spoke about her interest in playing the lead in a biopic, nepotism in film industries, viral social media pictures and foraying into film direction.

The Master actress said that if at all she is offered to play the lead role in a biopic, she would love to essay Aishwarya Rai in it. She says, "Her journey is quite inspiring. From being the Miss World to foraying into Kollywood to working in Mani Ratnam's movies to becoming the queen of Bollywood, I think it will be a fascinating experience to play the role."

With many actors donning the director's hat these days, does she have plans to turn a filmmaker, considering that she completed her studies in mass media? Interestingly, she doesn't dismiss the idea instantly. "I have no plans for now. But who knows? I might have an idea after a few years. I think I might think about it after, say, five years," she says.

Being the daughter of veteran cinematographer Mohanan, what does she think of the never-ending debates on nepotism? Malavika was quick to answer. She says, "As we all know, it exists in every industry. If I become a producer tomorrow and if my friend asks me if I could cast her son or daughter in a movie which I produce, it is obvious that I might not say no to the request. But it's true that star kids have things easy compared to others with no background in the film industry."

Malavika is one actress who has the knack of coming up with pictures on social media which become viral in no time. Quiz her on how she enjoys attention from her fans and occasional trolls and memes on her, she says, "Social media is a double-edged sword; there will be positive as well as negative comments. People may comment on your body, acting, hairstyle, and so on. It also makes you strong in the long run. Moreover, the love people shower on you is priceless."
