Maaran release date: When and where to watch this thriller, starring Dhanush, Malavika Mohanan

After various speculation doing the rounds, it was officially announced earlier this year that Maaran, directed by Karthick Naren, will have a direct-to-OTT release. Produced by Arjun Thyagarajan and Sendhil Thyagarajan under the banner of Sathya Jyothi Films, the movie has Dhanush playing the titular role in it.

The film had gone on floors a few months ago in Hyderabad, and the makers had unveiled its first look and title a few weeks after the shooting kicked off. Malavika Mohanan plays the female lead in the movie which has music composed by GV Prakash.   

What's Maaran about?

The film's story revolves around a daring journalist, who along with the help of his colleague, takes on a crooked politician. However, little did he know that he had to pay a price for it. The politician takes revenge against the journalist, and the latter tries his best to save himself. 

Samuthirakani plays the antagonist in the film which has Smruthi Venkat, Jayaprakash, Mahendran, Aadukalam Naren, Bose Venkat and Ilavarasu among others essaying crucial characters. Vivekanand Santhosham and Prasanna GK have handled cinematography and editing respectively for the project which has Suhas, Sharfu and Vivek working as co-writers along with the director.

When and where to watch Maaran online?

The much-awaited movie will drop on Disney+ Hotstar on March 11. This is Dhanush's third back-to-back OTT release; interestingly, his last outing, Atrangi Re, too, had a direct release on the same platform. The team has unveiled two songs from the movie so far.

After a few weeks into the film's shooting, there were widespread rumours on Karthick opting out of the project, but the makers denied it immediately. A few days ago, lyricist and dialogue writer Vivek took to social media to announce that he has no option but to quit from the project when he couldn't allot dates because of date clash with other films.
