It looks like the positive word of mouth for Madhavan's Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is slowly and steadily turning into footfalls. The movie which marked the actor's directorial debut released along with Rashtra Kavach OM and managed to take a clear lead against the latter from day one.
Rocketry, which was released in Tamil and Hindi, had opened to unanimous positive response among movie lovers and critics. The effective cameo by Suriya and Shah Rukh Khan in both the versions, too, helped the film a bit. Its screenplay and performances are hailed as one of the best in recent times.
After almost two weeks of its release, the movie's Hindi version made ₹12.15 crores at the box office, while the Tamil version earned ₹8.83 crores. With more than ₹20 crores from across the country, film buffs and its makers are waiting to know if the movie could enter the ₹50 crore club in the coming weeks.
According to trade pundits, the film withstood threat from Hollywood big ticket project Thor: Love and Thunder which stormed theatres across the country last Thursday. Vidyut Jammwal's Khuda Haafiz 2 and Varun, Kiara's Jug Jugg Jeeyo are other movies which are posing threat to Rocketry in Bollywood.
In Kollywood, Kamal Haasan-starrer Vikram still continues to rake in the moolah despite its OTT premiere on Disney+ Hotstar last Friday. Makers have now pinned hopes on Rocketry's box office in Tamil Nadu in the coming days, though there are three notable releases arriving theatres this Friday.
Rocketry is Madhavan's return to the silver screen with a Tamil film after four years. He was last seen in a cameo in Jyotika's Magalir Mattum which was produced by Suriya. His last Kollywood outing, Maara, was a direct release on Amazon Prime Video.
