Ajith-starrer Valimai, which released in theatres on February 24, is set for an OTT premiere. The action film directed by Vinoth will start streaming on Zee5 from March 25. A few days ago, the film courted controversy when the producer of Metro, Jayakrishnan, accused the big budget film of copying content from his movie.
Apparently, both the films revolve around crimes committed by bikers. Metro, directed by Ananda Krishnan, was released in theatres in 2016. He filed a case against Valimai's director Vinoth and producer Boney Kapoor in the Madras High Court and sought a compensation of one crore.
However, the court came out with the verdict that no copyright violation has happened and dismissed the case. The court also said that the film's OTT release cannot be halted as there isn't sufficient evidence against makers of Valimai.
Earlier, Jayakrishnan had said that he watched Valimai upon suggestion from some of his friends after they felt that the film's content has resemblance with the action thriller. In his complaint, he had also pointed out that many movie buffs, too, brought the similarity of the story to his notice on social media.
According to him, Valimai's story, too, revolves around elements like drug peddling, chain snatching and unemployment among youngsters, which made him file a complaint against its makers. Fans of Ajith and other cinephiles are now looking forward to seeing if Jayakrishnan will give up the case or fight for it in a different way.
Valimai is the second continuous movie of Ajith which is having an OTT premiere on Zee5 after Nerkonda Paarvai which was directed and produced by the same team. The team is now joining hands for their next movie, tentatively titled AK 61.
