A number of movies have postponed their release date owing to the current COVID-19 situation in the country. Adivi Sesh’s Major is the latest movie that has now decided to push back its release date.

The makers of the pan-Indian project confirmed that the release date of the movie has been pushed back, owing to the rising COVID-19 cases in the country. The movie was slated to release across the country on February 11, 2022.

“Owing to the aggravation of the covid situation and curfew/limitations in most parts of the country, the release of Major stands postponed. We would announce a new release date soon,” reads the official statement from the makers.

The makers also wrote that Major is a movie for India and that it will only be released in theatres, once the situation gets better across the country.

Directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka, the movie is based on the real-life story of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who was martyred during the November 2008 Mumbai attacks.

The movie, which has been shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu, will also release in Malayalam. The movie is touted to trace the life of the national hero from his childhood to his days in the army and the events of the Mumbai attack.

Bankrolled by Sony Pictures Films India in association with Mahesh Babu's GMB Entertainment and A+S Movies, Major also stars Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar, Prakash Raj, Revathi and Murli Sharma in important roles.

The first song from the movie, titled Hrudayama, was released earlier in January as part of the promotions. The lyrical video on YouTube, at the time of publishing this article, had already gathered over 2.3 million views.
