Mohanlal has established as the most bankable actor of Malayalam film industry, with some massive blockbusters including Pulimurugan and Lucifer. However, the Malayalam superstar has been going through a low phase in his acting career from the last couple of years, with the back-to-back releases of unimpressive and forgettable films.
However, Mohanlal is now set to reinvent himself with some highly promising projects in the pipeline. The veteran actor is headlining some of the most anticipated films of Malayalam cinema, in 2024. Have a look at Mohanlal’s most anticipated projects for next year, here…
Malaikottai Vaaliban
The period fantasy drama helmed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of Malayalam cinema in 2024. Mohanlal is playing a powerful warrior who lived in the pre-Independence era in the movie, which has already created quite a stir among the cine-goers with its highly promising first glimpse video. The superstar is expected create wonders on both the silver screen and the box office with Malaikottai Vaaliban, which marks his first collaboration with director Lijo.
Barroz
The 3D fantasy film, which marks Mohanlal’s directorial debut, has been under production from 2021. However, Barroz was delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and various production issues. Most of the initial star cast members, including Prithviraj Sukumaran had to bow out from the project owing to schedule conflicts. However, the project went on floors later with a new star cast.
Jijo Punnoose, who wrote the story of Barroz, eventually walked out of the project citing creative differences with director-leading man Mohanlal. However, the superstar, who also plays the titular role Barroz in the much-awaited film, finally wrapped up the shooting in March 2023. Barroz is now slated to hit the theatres on March 28, 2024.
L2 Empuraan
Mohanlal is reuniting with actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran for L2 Empuraan, the second installment of the Lucifer movie franchise. The highly anticipated project started rolling in October, this year, after the long delay caused by the pandemic. The superstar is returning to play the role of Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi Ab’Ram in the project, which is penned by actor-writer Murali Gopy. If things go as planned, L2 Empuraan might hit the theatres by the end of 2024.
Rambaan
The Malayalam superstar is set to reunite with veteran filmmaker Joshiy after a long gap for Rambaan, the upcoming action thriller. Mohanlal is said to be playing a unique role in the project, which is penned by actor-writer Chemban Vinod Jose, along with Einstin Zach Paul and Shailesh R Singh. Rambaan, which is expected to go on floors by the first quarter of 2024, is also expected to get released by the end of 2024.
Vrushabha
The pan-Indian period action drama, which is helmed by Nanda Kishore, features Mohanlal in the role of a warrior from a period era. Vrushabha, which is simultaneously being made in five languages including Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, is expected to have a grand theatrical release by mid-2024. The makers are expected to officially announce the release date of the project, very soon.
