Malaikottai Vaaliban, the period fantasy film which hit the big screens on January 25, 2024, is one of the most expensive projects in the career of its leading man, Mohanlal. The movie, which is helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery, has been receiving immense love from the film fanatics. However, Malaikottai Vaaliban has failed to do well at the box office, owing to the negative reviews from common audiences.

When it completed the first week (7 days) of its release, Mohanlal’s ambitious film managed to make a total box office of around Rs 12 crore with its domestic centers (Kerala and Rest of India) together. When it comes it its worldwide collection, the Lijo Jose Pellissery directorial is now set to touch the Rs. 25 crore mark.

Malaikottai Vaaliban touches Rs. 12 crore mark with domestic collection

As per the latest reports from box office analysts, Malaikottai Vaaliban has made a total gross collection of Rs. 12.65 crore from the Kerala box office, and the Rest of India releasing centers together. The period fantasy film registered just over 11 percent occupancy towards the end of its first week at the theatres. This is undoubtedly one of the poorest performances delivered by a Mohanlal-led big-budget film, in recent times.

Malaikottai Vaaliban worldwide collection

According to the recent updates, Malaikottai Vaaliban is expected to touch the Rs. 25 crore mark with its worldwide box office collection, today (Day 8). In that case, the Lijo Jose Pellissery directorial has to be one of the slowest Mohanlal films of recent times (barring Monster and Alone) that struggled so much to touch this foot. Notably, the superstar’s previous outing Neru crossed the Rs. 25-crore mark at the box office, just within the first week of its release.

The second week of release

The magnum opus, which has now entered the second week of its release, will reportedly get a reduction in its number of shows owing to the negative response from the audience. In that case, it is safe to assume that the Mohanlal starrer might not get a chance to outperform itself at the box office, even on the second weekend of its release. In fact, the movie might end its theatrical run sooner than expected, due to the same.
