Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, who is basking in the critical and commercial success of his latest movie Neru, on Monday unveiled a very intriguing poster of his upcoming movie Malaikottai Vaaliban The new poster captures the grandeur of the movie, showing Mohanlal leading a sacred congregation of numerous sages. Cloaked like a wizard, Mohanlal sits at the centre while his followers encircle him, implying complete submission to his presence. The circular arrangement suggests an inner sanctum of a temple, portraying Mohanlal in a pivotal role.

From the poster, it's apparent that director Lijo Jose Pellissery has delved into religious symbols and mythological elements to weave this narrative. The release of the poster coincided with Christmas celebrations.

Malaikottai Vaaliban marks the maiden collaboration between Mohanlal and Lijo Jose Pellissery. And it won't be wrong to say that it's one of the most-awaited director-actor collaborations in the Malayalam film industry. The film is scripted by Lijo's regular screenwriter P. S. Rafeeque (Nayakan, Amen).

The makers of Malaikottai Vaaliban have enveloped the film in a shroud of secrecy, revealing minimal details about its plot and genre. Aside from Mohanlal's mysterious appearance, little is known about the movie. The filmmakers are doing a swell job teasing the fans and intensifying the intrigue around the film.

Mohanlal, however, is quite upbeat about this film, describing it as a groundbreaking project in Malayalam cinema . "We are also in anticipation of that film. It's a very unique film in terms of its cinematic treatment. It's like a Western movie. There is no set period or the background. The music, colour patterns or actions would feel very fresh and new which has never been seen in Malayalam cinema. We created this film on a grand canvas, and Lijo has handled it beautifully," Mohanlal said earlier in an interview.

Malaikottai Vaaliban also stars Danish Sait, Sonalee Kulkarni, Hareesh Peradi and Katha Nandi. It's due in cinemas on January 24, 2024.

In the meantime, Mohanlal scored a big hit with Neru. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film has struck a chord with the fans of Malayalam cinema and it's outperforming two big-budget blockbusters (Salaar and Dunki) in Kerala.
