Fahadh Faasil will be kicking off 2022 with another unique offering that will showcase his stellar performance. The first trailer of his survival thriller Malayankunju was released by the star on his social media page today and it packed a lot of surprises.

Fahadh, who will be seen in a rustic avatar in the movie, plays Anikuttan in the film. The trailer reveals that he’s a man with a short fuse and behaves erratically – be it with his family or his neighbours. Things, however, take a turn after a landslide due to heavy rainfall during which Anikuttan finds himself trapped and has to rely on his wits and the help of others to escape.

The movie marks the debut directorial of Sajimon, who had previously assisted Venu and Mahesh Narayanan in movies such as Take Off and Carbon that Fahadh was also part of. Mahesh, who had previously helmed Malik, C U Soon and Take Off, has written the script of Malayankunju and has also turned cinematographer for the movie, which is produced by Fahadh’s dad and director Fazil.

Another highlight of Malayankunju is that it has music composed by AR Rahman. It’s reportedly the first time that the Academy Award winner is scoring music for a survival thriller. According to reports, the maestro has also composed two songs along with the background score of Malayankunju.

Rajisha Vijayan, Indrans, Deepak Parambol and Jaffar Idukki play other pivotal roles in the movie, edited by Arju Benn. The team also revealed that the film will release in theatres in February 2022. This would mark Fahadh’s first theatrical release in Malayalam in the past two years. The actor’s previous films – Irul, Joji and Malik – had released directly on streaming platforms. Fahadh played an extended cameo in Allu Arjun’s Telugu movie Pushpa recently, which is currently running in theatres.
