Actor Mamitha Baiju, who is currently enjoying the success of hit Malayalam film Premalu, will be making her Tamil debut with GV Prakash-starrer Rebel. However, a few weeks ago, the actor was embroiled in a controversy when a clip of her old interview went viral with Mamitha stating that she had to face stressful behaviour on the sets of filmmaker Bala's Vanangaan because of which she had to step out of the project.
Recently, in an interview, Mamitha stated that the viral clip only focussed on a small portion of what she was saying and one would understand the context of what she meant when they saw the whole interview.
Mamitha clarifies on Vanangaan controversy
In an interview with Film Companion, when asked how she choose to respond to a controversy or rumours surrounding her, especially with regard to the Vanangaan issue, Mamitha said, "Only a small bit of what I said went viral and became a controversy. People never saw what I spoke before and after it. I don't mind because if they see the whole interview, they will understand what I have said and how casually I spoke about it. But when and if any issue would hurt somebody else because of me, then I would step up and clarify. That is also why I had put an Instagram story to clarify it.”
The context
Earlier, a clip of Mamitha's interview with a radio channel went viral on social media, in which the actor recalls her experience working on Bala's sets. She spoke about being under stress during shoot sequences that involved playing folk drums. The actor had said that due to her lack of experience, she could not deliver to Bala's approval and the latter had scolded and hit her. Subsequently, Mamitha had withdrawn from the project.
Mamitha’s social media clarification
Once the video went viral on social media, Mamitha had taken to her Instagram and issued a clarification. Calling the rumours “baseless”, she said that the clip was taken out of context and was “misquoted to create this irresponsible headline”. She had said that Bala had been kind to her and did not face any “mental or physical harm or any other abusive behaviour”. Mamitha had also clarified that she had to leave Vanagaan because of other professional commitments.
