Valentine's Day at the Kerala box office looked to be a gala affair with four Malayalam films, including Mammootty's Bazooka, lined up for release. But the Mammootty-starrer has withdrawn from the V-Day race and is now scheduled to release on April 10, 2025, during the Vishu festival. But this means that Bazooka will be clashing with two Tamil star releases of Ajith Kumar's Good Bad Ugly and Dhanush's Idly Kadai at the Kerala Vishu Box Office.
Bazooka releasing on April 10 was welcomed by many fans online as a Mammootty film is hitting theatres as a Vishu release after a long time. But it also pits the Malayalam megastar’s game thriller against the Tamil stars Ajith Kumar's Good Bad Ugly and Dhanush's Idly Kadai at the Kerala box office for Vishu.
The megastar of Malayalam obviously enjoys a huge fan following in the state and his films do have a good opening at the box office. But other South film stars such as Vijay, Ajith Kumar and even Allu Arjun also have numerous fans in Kerala. The Pushpa 2 star is even hailed as ‘Mallu Arjun’, despite being a Telugu actor.
Among the two Tamil stars, Ajith Kumar will have a slightly more edge with his Thala fan base in Kerala. With his stylish action sequences, Ajith’s films also make a mark in Kerala.
His upcoming film Good Bad Ugly is directed by Adhik Ravichandran. The actor’s look from Good Bad Ugly had gone viral.
His latest release, Vidaamuyarchi, collected Rs 59.50 lakh in the state from 1,025 shows in its pre-sales business. Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja, and Regina Cassandra are part of the film which will be released in theatres on February 6, 2025. A quick scan of Bookmyshow tells me Ajith Kumar’s action thriller has shows throughout the day in major cities of the state even on Saturday (day 3).
Ajith is also married to (Baby) Shalini, who first wowed the audience as a child artiste in Malayalam before tasting success as a lead heroine.
Dhanush movies also have an impact in Kerala, with his last directorial Rayaan earning Rs 3.65 crore in its first week at the Kerala box office. Dhanush also starred in the film, which had Kalidas Jayaram and Aparna Balamurali
Dhanush’s upcoming film Idli Kadai will also star him along with Nithya Menen, who won the National Award for Best Actress last year.
With all three star films slated to release on April 10, audiences can expect some fireworks at the Kerala Vishu box office in 2025.
