Trailer launches of much-anticipated movies have been star-studded events over recent years. But Malayalam megastar Mammootty turning up as the chief guest at the Aashaan trailer launch was definitely not expected, as the film does not boast of a huge star cast, nor is it much-anticipated. Mammootty himself revealed why he turned up for actor Indrans’ Aashaan trailer launch, saying that the makers have attempted something quite different and we should not 'abandon' such films.
Aashaan is an upcoming Malayalam movie, which features comedian-turned-character-actor Indrans in the lead role. The Aashaan trailer launch was held on January 30, 2026. During the trailer launch, Mammootty himself wondered out aloud why he had turned up. The film is distributed by his son and actor Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, but Mammootty quickly brushed off that as the reason.
“They have presented other films too, but I have not gone for that. The director (Johnpaul George) came to invite me and narrated almost the full story. When I listened to him, I felt if the film has come out the way he has narrated, it would be the first of its kind," remarked Mammootty, who was recently bestowed with Padma Bhushan award by the central government.
Praising the film’s approach and the way it has been written, Mammootty also said that the actors have performed really well, though none of them are big names.
“The trailer has also come out well. And I was relieved, as my coming here has not been in vain,” candidly remarked the veteran actor. The Bramayugam actor further said that even though he was not part of the movie, he wanted to back such initiatives. "People who watch movies and those who listen to me, should not abandon this film," he added. The upcoming film, touted to be a dramedy, will release in theatres on February 5.
The upcoming film Aashaan is helmed by Johnpaul George, who had directed Guppy, starring Tovino Thomas. Joemon Jyothir plays the other key role in the film, which revolves around a film shooting at a flat. Indrans plays the titular role of Aashaan.
