The Malayalam movie, directed by Amal Neerad, has already grossed over Rs 75 crore worldwide within two weeks of its release

The success of Mammootty’s Bheeshma Parvam will provide a huge relief to theatre exhibitors as well as distributors of Malayalam cinema. The Amal Neerad directorial, which has already become the megastar’s highest grossing film ever, is continuing its box office onslaught and lately trumped a record set by Vijay’s Master last year in Saudi Arabia.

Bheeshma Parvam, which released in a record number of screens in the GCC, clocked 30.2k theatre admits within two weeks of its release compared to Master’s 30k and Dulquer Salmaan-starrer Kurup’s 28.5k last year, according to reports. This would make it the highest grossing Indian film in Saudi Arabia.

The film had recently crossed Rs 75 Cr in box office gross worldwide and is still running to packed houses in select theatres across the State. The film earned Rs 40 Cr in Kerala alone, much to the cheer of the theatre exhibitors. The Kerala government permitting 100% theatre occupancy as well as the pandemic cases subsiding have also factored in the successful run of Bheeshma Parvam, which opened to largely positive reviews.

The movie is a gangster thriller set in the late 1980s and has an ensemble cast featuring Shine Tom Chacko, Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Nadiya Moidu, Dileesh Pothan, Sudev Nair, Shebin Benson and Veena Nandakumar. Late actors Nedumudi Venu and KPAC Lalitha too appear in pivotal roles in the film, scripted by Amal and Devadath Shaji.

Meanwhile, Mammootty’s next film Puzhu has been confirmed as a direct-to-OTT release on Sony LIV. The movie, directed by Ratheena PT and produced by S George and Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, is a crime thriller that has the superstar essaying a role with grey shades. Puzhu revolves around the dynamics between a father and son, and also has Parvathy Thiruvothu in the lead.
