Mammootty's Kannur Squad will release earlier than expected; all details here

The Mammootty-starrer investigative drama Kannur Squad is among the much-anticipated upcoming releases in Malayalam. The film was rumoured to be released in theatres on October 5, but according to the latest reports, Kannur Squad will hit theatres on September 28.

The teaser for the film was expected to be released in August. There were also speculations that the teaser would be attached to the first screening of Mammootty's son, actor Dulquer Salmaan's King of Kotha, but that didn't happen.

Apart from Mammootty, the other actors in Kannar Squad are Shabareesh Varma, Rony David, Deepak Parambol, and Azeez Nedumangad. In the movie, Mammootty plays a police officer who leads a team of law enforcement officials in tracking down some criminals. The posters for the film suggest that it is an intense drama with a captivating plot.

The shooting of Kannur Squad

Mammootty is playing a police character below the rank of sub-inspector for the first time in 10 years. The film was shot in Maharashtra and Kerala, with one of the locations being Maharajas College in Ernakulam, which is Mammootty's alma mater. The actor recently shared a video of his visit to the college on his social media pages. 

The crew of Kannur Squad

Kannur Squad is helmed by former cinematographer Roby Varghese Raj, who has worked with Mammooty in films like The Great Father. Bankrolled by Mammootty Kampany, Kannur Squad is scripted by Muhammed Shafi and actor Rony David. The technical department consists of Muhammed Rahil as the cinematographer and Praveen Prabhakar as the editor.

Mammootty's upcoming projects

Meanwhile, Mammootty's upcoming projects are the game thriller Bazooka and Jeo Baby's Kaathal - The Core. Helmed by Deeno Dennis, Bazooka is touted as a 'stylish thriller'. Along with Mammoootty, the film also stars Neeta Pillai, Babu Antony, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Sumit Naval.

Mammootty is currently busy with the shoot of Rahul Sadasivan's horror film Bramayugam, which also stars Arjun Ashokan, Siddharth Bharathan, and Amalda Liz. The film is bankrolled by YNOT Studios, which has produced films like Kadaseela Biriyani and Vikram Vedha
