The Malayalam audience might get the first chance to watch Mammootty and Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam at the 27th International Film Festival of Kerala, where the movie will be screened as part of its Competition Section.
Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam marks Lijo’s first film with the megastar. The film is also produced by Mammootty under his new banner Mammootty Kampany, which had recently released Rorschach. The upcoming film, which was shot earlier in the year, is set entirely in Tamil Nadu and has Mammootty reportedly essaying the role of a thief.
Apart from Mammootty, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, which is scripted by S Hareesh, also stars Ashokan, Ramya Pandian, Chethan Jayalal, Sanjana Dipu and Bitto Davis. Kannada actor Pramod Shetty, who will also be playing a pivotal role in Tovino Thomas’ Ajayante Randam Moshanam, is also part of the film, which has cinematography by Theni Eeswar.
The list of the movies selected as part of the section also includes Kunchacko Boban’s Ariyippu, which is currently having its festival run at the BFI London Film Festival and was also screened at Busan International Film Festival. The film, which had its premiere at the Locarno Film Festival a few months ago, will also mark Kunchacko’s debut direct-to-OTT release, with the makers confirming that its rights have been sold to Netflix. The streaming platform will debut the movie after its festival run.
Meanwhile, 12 other movies have also been selected for this year’s IFFK by the jury comprising R Sarath, Ranjith Sankar, Anuraj Manohar and Jeeva KJ. Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s Tovino-starrer Vazhakku, Kamal KM’s Pada, Freedom Fight and Indhu VS’ 19(1)(a) are among the list. The much-awaited annual film festival will be held from December 9 to 16 in Thiruvananthapuram. Considering that there are several films with top stars, the festival is sure to be a huge attraction this year.
