Manamey on OTT: Sharwanand's film is a digital hit after box office disappointment, trends on top

Sharwanand was once a bankable hero in Telugu cinema, but lately, his films have struggled at the box office. One such film was Manamey, directed by Sriram Aditya. Despite being aggressively promoted ahead of its release on June 8, 2025, Manamey ended up as a below-average performer at the box office.

Manamey is a smash hit on OTT

The disappointing part was that for nearly eight months, no OTT platform showed interest in acquiring its digital rights. Finally, Prime Video secured the rights and began streaming the film on March 7, 2025. Now that the film is available online, it has become a trending topic online. Manamey has topped Prime Video’s charts and has held the number one position since its second day of streaming.

A section of the audience initially ignored Manamey in theaters due to negative word of mouth. However, with its release on OTT, many viewers have embraced it. Those who have now watched the film are particularly enjoying Sharwanand’s hilarious performance. He plays an irresponsible man who is suddenly tasked with taking care of his friend’s baby. The film humorously portrays how he navigates this unexpected situation and eventually finds love.

Sharwa's hilarious performance is the highlight of Manamey

Some critics felt that Manamey was ahead of its time, which could explain its underwhelming theatrical run. However, the film is now receiving appreciation on OTT. This is not the first time a movie that flopped in theaters has found success online. For instance, Gopichand’s Viswam has been trending for months on Aha and OTTplay Premium, proving that some films resonate better with audiences on digital platforms.

Kriti Shetty played the female lead in Manamey, which featured a fantastic soundtrack composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab. The film, shot entirely in London, boasted stunning visuals. T.G. Vishwa Prasad of People Media Factory produced the movie on a massive budget, but unfortunately, he incurred losses.

Sharwanand is now busy shooting for his new film, in which he plays a biker. He has also signed a few more projects that he will announce soon. For now, despite its initial failure, Manamey is a smash hit on OTT and continues to trend on Amazon Prime. Stay tuned for more updates.
