Disney+ Hotstar has confirmed the OTT release date of the latest Telugu movie Mangalavaaram. Starring Payal Rajput in the lead, the film will debut on streaming on December 26, a Tuesday.

Mangalavaaram is Telugu for Tuesday and this mystery thriller made its theatrical debut on November 17. It received mixed reviews from critics and the audiences and that didn't help the film's performance at the box office. The film managed to earn less than Rs 15 crore from its worldwide ticket sales, ending its theatrical run on a disappointing note. The film was mounted on a budget of Rs 20 crore and it was promoted as a pan-India movie with simultaneous release in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi.

However, things didn't pan out in the favour of the movie. Despite receiving praise for its scale, and technical aesthetics, the movie fell short of striking a cord with a mass audience. Music composer B. Ajaneesh Loknath's score is said to be one of the highlights of this thriller. Ajaneesh shot to fame after his score for Kantara exploded on the national scene following the massive commercial success of the film last year.

Judging from the trailer, Mangalavaaram promises to deliver a taut mystery drama steeped in primal emotions like love, lust and revenge. In the film, a village seems to be under siege by an unknown entity following a series of mysterious deaths. All the deaths take place on a Tuesday; hence the title Mangalavaaram.

While the trailer doesn't reveal too much about the force that's terrorizing the villagers, it seems to involve the wrath of a woman. It's safe to assume that a tragic past concerning Payal Rajput's character is the primary source of the curse that has enveloped the village. Written and directed by Ajay Bhupathi, the film also stars Priyadarshi Pulikonda, Chaitanya Krishna, Divya Pillai, Ravindra Vijay and Ajay Ghosh among others.
