Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan confirms September 30 as release date; hints at an update soon

Amid speculation doing the rounds about the teaser release of Mani Ratnam's multi-starrer flick Ponniyin Selvan, the team has come up with an update, leaving movie buffs elated. A short video has been released from the social media handles of Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies which have jointly produced the big budget film.  

The 10-second video which has a pulsating background score by AR Rahman features a few people hosting a flag. It also showcases the architectural marvel built during the mighty Chola dynasty in its background.

The team had earlier announced September 30 as the movie's release. The video released by the two production houses affirms the release plans. The film which features a stellar cast will release in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages.

Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarath Kumar, Vikram Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, Prabhu, Parthiban and Prakash Raj among others play significant characters in the much-awaited film which is based on writer Kalki Krishnamurthy’s ever popular Tamil novel that was serialised in the 1950s.

Set in the 10th century, Ponniyin Selvan is expected to touch upon the various power struggles within the Chola empire. The character posters of Aishwarya, Vikram, Trisha, Karthi and Jayam Ravi were released by the team earlier.

Ravi Varman has handled cinematography for the movie which has production design by Thota Tharrani and editing by Sreekar Prasad. According to sources, a major announcement is expected to be made by the team in a week's time. Movie lovers hope that the update is likely to be on the film's teaser.

There have been unconfirmed reports doing the rounds that the team's plans to launch the movie's teaser in Tanjore have been put on hold. For now, cinephiles are excited about the release of the film's first part which is slated to happen on September 30.
