Marco on OTT: Unni Mukundan on why he is eager for family audience to watch violent action thriller on Sony LIV

That Marco is the most violent action thriller from Malayalam is now an accepted and even somewhat celebrated fact. But beyond the blood and gore, the movie also highlights brotherhood and prioritizes family, according to its lead star Unni Mukundan. Ahead of Marco’s release on Sony Liv on February 14, 2025, Unni Mukundan tells us why he is eager for the family audience to watch the Malayalam action thriller on OTT.

Haneef Adeni’s action-packed film follows Marco as he seeks to avenge the murder of a loved one. Unni Mukundan who plays the leading man says that he also views the action-packed film as a family movie. 

“Even when we brought Marco as a dominant action movie to the market, I primarily view it as a family film. No matter what violence Marco has committed, it is for his family. It is an action revenge drama. We all have relationships and I feel that when anything untoward happens to our family, we will try to reciprocate,” Unni Mukundan explained.

Unni Mukundan’s Marco, who is the adopted brother of George, prioritizes family over anything and everything and will go to any extent for their well-being. Even in the trailer released by Sony Liv, a child says that there is only one person who would step forward if anything happens to their family and that is Marco.

Highlighting this aspect, Unni Mukundan says, “In all sense, Marco is an A-certified film but I always felt that it is a movie that carries high emotions. When it comes to a digital platform, I am waiting to see how the family audiences will receive this film on OTT. The majority of the audience who watched the film in theatres were the youth. Now with the SonyLiv premiere, I am looking forward to a bigger audience (watching the film). Let’s see,” he added. 

Marco was released in theatres on December 20, 2024, and emerged to be a winner among the Christmas releases in Kerala. The action-packed film literally broke language barriers as it won appreciation from non-Malayalam viewers too.
