Friends’ beloved star Matthew Perry, who passed away recently, is making a huge difference in people’s lives who are battling any kind of addiction. His legacy was passed on after the launch of the Matthew Perry Foundation on November 3, turning his long-awaited dream into reality.

A fight against substance abuse

Matthew Perry had previously been open about his struggles with addiction and how he had overcome substance abuse over a period of difficult journey. His commitment to helping people fight the addiction urge was left incomplete after his sudden demise. However, his previously laid out plans came to fruition after those closer to him teamed up to launch a foundation under the Friends star name.

During the launch’s opening ceremony, the official statement read, “In the spirit of Matthew Perry’s enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction, we embark on a journey to honor his legacy... guided by his own words and experiences, and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible.”

Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing

Perry who played the iconic character of Chandler Bing passed away at 54 and opened up about his decade-long addiction battle in his memoir 'Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,' which was released last year. The actor detailed his troubled addiction days to alcohol and opioids.  “When I die, I don’t want Friends to be the first thing that’s mentioned — I want helping others to be the first thing that’s mentioned. And I’m going to live the rest of my life proving that. Addiction is far too powerful for anyone to defeat alone. But together, one day at a time, we can beat it down.” the Fools Rush In actor had said earlier during his book promotions.

Matthew Perry was found dead in a hot bathtub on 28 October in his LA home. Though the autopsy results are completed, they are deferred due to a pending toxicology report.
