The entire world was shocked after news broke that Friends’ actor Matthew Perry had drowned in his hot tub on October 28. According to the Daily Mail, the 54-year-old actor was dead before the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at his house and pulled him out of the hot tub. Captain Erik Scott of the LAFD said, “Los Angeles City Firefighters responded and found an adult male unconscious in a stand-alone hot tub.”

According to the reports, Matthew’s assistant tried to lift his head and bring him to the edge of the water to get some air. Erik added that a rapid medical assessment revealed that the actor was deceased prior to the first responder’s arrival.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office told PEOPLE magazine that an autopsy has been completed, but toxicology reports are pending. The cause of Matthew’s death has been listed as deferred since it is "pending additional investigation." There has been no suspicion of foul play in the investigation.

Matthew’s family is heartbroken by the tragic loss

Matthew’s family said that they are heartbroken by the tragic loss of their beloved son and brother. "Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love,” the family added.

Matthew shot to global fame as Chandler Bing on the hit American sitcom series Friends, which premiered in 1994.
