After the shocking demise of Friends star Matthew Perry at 54, a video of him speaking about how he would like to be remembered after death is doing the rounds on the internet.

During an interview with Tom Power last year on the Q With Tom Power podcast, Matthew was asked about how he would like to be remembered. Responding to that, the actor said, “I want to remembered as a person who lived well, loved well. Was a seeker and his paramount thing is that he wants to help people. That’s what I want.”

Matthew Perry’s addiction to alcohol and drugs

Matthew breathed his last on October 28, due to drowning in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home. The actor was vocal about his struggles with depression and alcoholism. Talking about his drug addiction, Matthew in his memoir, Friends, Lovers and Big Terrible Thing, the actor revealed that he would take 55 Vicodin a day and didn’t know how to stop. He wrote, “If the police came over to my house and said, ‘If you drink tonight, we’re going to take you to jail,’ I’d start packing. I couldn’t stop because the disease and the addiction is progressive. So it gets worse and worse as you grow older.”

Matthew feeling depressed on the set of Friends

The actor also recalled his experiences of feeling lonely on the set of the popular sitcom Friends. He said, “I was in the white-hot flame of fame. The six of us were just everywhere all the time. From an outsider’s perspective, it would seem like I had it all. It was actually a very lonely time for me, because I was suffering from alcoholism. It was going on before Friends, but it’s a progressive disease. I wasn’t a massive party guy. I wasn’t a bull-in-a-china-shop kind of drinker.”

Friends – the iconic sitcom

Matthew was part of hit American sitcom Friends, along with Lisa Kudrow (as Phoebe), Jennifer Aniston (as Rachel), David Schwimmer (as Ross), Courtney Cox (as Monica) and Matt LeBlanc (as Joey).
