Mayasabha on OTT: Teaser sparks controversy; fans call out factual errors

After the success of Trisha Krishnan's Brinda, Sony Liv is back with yet another controversial series titled Mayasabha, directed by popular filmmaker Deva Katta. The show is all set to stream from August 7, 2025. The makers revealed the teaser and shocked the audience by revealing that Mayasabha is based on two of the most influential political leaders in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Chandrababu Naidu and YS Rajasekhar Reddy.

Going by the teaser, the show is about the days when Chandrababu Naidu and YS Rajasekhar Reddy used to be close friends and were in the same party, and how they ended up becoming hardcore enemies and eventually went on to become Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh in their own right.

Ever since the trailer came out, there have been many discussions about the two leaders being showcased in the wrong manner. A section of the audience started posting messages claiming that both Chandrababu and YS Rajasekhar Reddy were never close friends.

Seeing all this response, Deva Katta posted on Twitter that the series is based on true incidents and that he will showcase the proceedings without taking any sides. But still, the controversies have not stopped. Several theories have started making the rounds regarding a particular scene in the trailer.

If you observe closely, the teaser showcases Rajasekhar Reddy having a conversation with Chandrababu Naidu before the iconic Viceroy Hotel movement, where Chandrababu revolted against his father-in-law, the late NT Rama Rao. That was one of the most iconic moments in the history of Telugu politics when the entire Nandamuri family revolted against NTR and his wife.

So, a section has been posting comments and videos stating that YS Rajasekhar Reddy was not even in a powerful position by then, and how could he make a call to Chandra Babu regarding the famous "Vennupotu issue". Not only this, many feel that there are also several other aspects that have been dramatized for cinematic effect, and the friendship between the two leaders is showcased just to create a wow factor.

All this has created a fresh controversy, and many say that the show is going to have many factual errors. However, the makers have remained silent, knowing they are coming up with a series that will not take sides, and whatever controversies are going on, it’s good publicity for the project.
