Veteran Malayalam actor Meena Ganesh passes away at 81

Veteran actor Meena Ganesh, who worked in the Malayalam film industry, passed away at the age of 81. The actor passed away at a private hospital in Kerala's Palakkad on Thursday, December 19, as per reports. She featured in over 100 Malayalam films in her career.

Senior Malayalam actor Meena Ganesh, who is known for her roles in films like Karumadikuttan, and Nandanam, died at the age of 81 on Thursday.

The veteran actor was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Shoranur in Palakkad, Kerala after her blood pressure had increased. A few reports also suggest that she had suffered a stroke and was taking treatment. Subsequently, Meena Ganesh passed away due to her age-related issues. She breathed last at around 1.20 am on Thursday and her death was confirmed, reports say. Her last rites will be held in Shoranur at 4 pm, on Thursday evening.

Meena Ganesh, a known face in the Malayalam film and television industry, began her career in acting with the 1976 film Manimuzhakkam. Directed by PA Backer, it starred Harikeshan Thampi, Veeran, Johnson, Sankaradi, Saritha, Urmila, Vani, Cyril P Jacob, Charulatha, Santhakumari, Sreenivasan and others.

The actor, who started her career in the 1970s, predominantly worked through the 1990s and early 2000s. She was last seen in the 2016 film Pathirakkattu and has also done a handful of television serials like Ramayanam, Calcutta Hospital, Karunyam, Minnukettu, and Aa Amma, among others.

Meena Ganesh was a theatre artist before her silver screen debut. She began acting at the age of 19 and went on to do more than 100 films in her career. Some of her known films include Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njanum, Karumadikuttan, and Nandanam. Throughout her career, she has appeared in various supporting roles.
