Mehfil is acclaimed director Jayaraj’s latest venture, which features actor Mukesh in the lead role of Mullassery Raju, the real-life person who inspired Mohanlal’s iconic character - Mangalassery Neelakandan in Devasuram. Now, Mehfil has dropped online on Manorama Max. Here’s everything you need to know about the film, which also features Asha Sharath and Unni Mukundan.
Mehfil is a 2025 Malayalam film, starring actors Mukesh, Unni Mukundan, and Asha Sharath, released in theatres on August 8. The musical drama, which is penned and helmed by Jayaraj, started streaming on Manorama Max on October 1, 2025, within two months of its theatrical release. The film could drop in other platforms too with reports stating Mehfil would also be available on Sun NXT (OTTplay Premium) next week.
Jayaraj has also penned the story and the screenplay for the 2025 film. Not many knew about Mehfil during its theatrical run, but the OTT release is expected to give it a larger reach and better appreciation. Senior actor Manoj K. Jayan, and actor-screenwriter Renji Panicker are also part of the cast. The film, a musical drama, has eight songs by Deepankuran Kaithapram.
Mehfil revolves around Mullasery Raju, a former landlord, and his wife (Asha Sharath). The fictionalised account of the former landlord’s tale is depicted in the Mohanlal-starrer Devasuram, helmed by IV Sasi and penned by Renjith. The trailer of Mehfil also refers to Mangalassery Neelakandan, one of the most popular and iconic Mohanlal characters from the 1990s.

In the 1993 Malayalam film Devasarum, Mohanlal plays the feudal lord Mangalassery Neelakandan. Revathy also stars in the film as the strong-willed Bhanumathi, whose paths cross with that of Neelakandan. The film also got a sequel in 2001 - Ravanaprabhu, where Mangalassery Neelakandan too makes a comeback, but as a supporting character with his son Karthikeyan (again Mohanlal) taking the lead. Both Devasarum and Ravanaprabhu are streaming on Prime Video. OTTplay Premium subscribers can also watch the films by topping up their plans to include Prime Video.
