Merise Merise, the Telugu film starring Dinesh Tej, Shweta Awasthi, directed by first-time filmmaker Pawan Kumar K, hit theatres on August 6 across the Telugu states. The film, produced by Venkatesh Kotthuri, also starred Sanjay Swaroop, Guri Raj, Bindu Chandramouli, Sandhya Janak, Mani, Sashank and Nanaji in key roles. Merise Merise's crew comprises Pelli Choopulu cinematographer Nagesh Banell, composer Karthik Kodakandla and editor Mahesh. After its brief theatrical run, the film made its digital debut on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video on August 19.
The film revolves around the highs and lows in the relationship between an ambitious fashion designer Vennela and an upcoming entrepreneur Siddhu. The coming of age tale stresses the importance of a person to have their own identity and to find their purpose in life. Merise Merise is a mix of humour, emotions and drama and delves around aspects that are relevant to the current generation. Several reviews compared the film to Vijay Deverakonda's smash hit Pelli Choopulu, but was appreciated for its realistic treatment and natural performances.
The producer in a media statement has expressed his optimism about the film's digital release and was reportedly flooded with positive responses about the film from his well-wishers and friends. The lead actor Dinesh Tej made a mark in the buddy comedy Hushaaru and the critically acclaimed sci-fi thriller Playback that hit theatres before the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic this year. The film's leading lady Shweta Awasthi was introduced to Telugu cinema with a film titled Malli Malli Chusa.
