MGR Magan release date: When and where to watch this family drama, starring Sasikumar and Sathyaraj

Ponram's MGR Magan was initially supposed to hit the screens in early 2020. Later, post the first wave of COVID-19, when theatres started operating from November 2020, the makers decided to release the movie in April 2021. However, the unanticipated second wave disrupted their plans. 

The film, which is billed as a family drama, has Sasikumar playing the lead. Sathyaraj will be seen playing his father's role in the movie which has Mirnalini Ravi playing the female lead. Saranya Ponvannan and Samuthirakani also play pivotal roles in the film which has Nandita Swetha donning a special appearance.

The makers of MGR Magan recently announced that the film will have a premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on November 4, on the occasion of Deepavali. Though the team were keen on a theatrical release, with no other option left, they chose to go the OTT way. Talking to OTTplay, director Ponram had said recently that he was upset with the producers after they decided to choose an OTT platform for the film's release. 

He said, "What is disappointing is the fact that theatres are open in Tamil Nadu, and still the team had to come up with a decision to release the movie on an OTT platform. But the final decision is in the producer's hand. As a director, I have to support them."     

Both Ponram and Sasikumar moved on to other projects long ago. While the former is directing a movie which stars Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, the latter has two of his projects hitting the screens on November 26. His previous outing, Udanpirappe, had a premiere on Amazon Prime Video last month.
