A year after Mithya, directed by Sumanth Bhat for a Rakshit Shetty production was screened for a select audience at the Bengaluru International Film Festival, the film is getting a theatrical outing. Rakshit Shetty’s Paramvah Studios recently announced that Mithya will be in theatres on March 7.

The film, which premiered at the Mami Mumbai Film Festival in 2023, follows an 11-year-old boy, Mithun, who is dealing with the devastating tragedy of having lost both his parents. Sumanth explores how children process grief and the challenges they face in striking new relationships after such a loss. Atish Shetty plays Mithun, a performance that’s been widely lauded.

Sumanth is one of the writing squad – the Seven Odds – at Paramvah Studios, all of who were given the push to make their debut films under the banner, in whatever style they wanted to. From Kiranraj K’s 777 Charlie, to Abhijit Mahesh’s Bachelor party and Chandrajith Belliappa’s Ibbani Tabbida Ileyali, among others, these have all been Paramvah productions. Mithya has had a great festival run and is now coming to theatres.

With the Seven Odds, Rakshit’s funda has been to let them tell stories the way they envisioned, without any compromise, which, he believes is how good content comes about. These, he reckons are not formulaic stories, but come from the heart and are the kind that become trendsetters. Over time, though, the hope is that these filmmakers learn to tell these stories in more commercially viable formats.

While Rakshit has by and large backed films by writers from his team, when scripts do make it to Paramvah Studios, it is up to the members of the Seven Odds to screen them and if at least 2 like and approve a story, it comes to the actor-filmmaker for final clearance. After Mithya, only Shishir Rajmohan’s Abracadabra remains to be released in theatres.
