Modern Love Mumbai will hit the silver screen this week, with some contemporary tales of love set in the titular city. The series consists of six episodes, helmed by Hansal Mehta, Shonali Bose, Vishal Bhardwaj, Alankrita Shrivastava, Dhruv Sehgal and Nupur Asthana. Mehta recently opened up about his directorial, titled Baai.
In a statement, the director talked about his definition of love. “If the connection of two souls had to take a tangible form, it would embody itself through love,” he said. Mehta said that to him, love involved being unconditionally accepted who one is. No barriers or prejudices should ever come in the way of such acceptance.
Mehta said that he tried to capture as well as honour that kind of unconditional love through his episode, Baai. He said that people inherently seek out such love, irrespective of the nature of the relationship. He called his episode an ‘ode to love’, that finds itself free of the ‘burden of labels’ and the ‘pressures’ of conformity. The episode stars Tanuja, Pratik Gandhi and Ranveer Brar in lead roles. Gandhi and Mehta had previously collaborated together in SonyLIV’s Scam 1992 (2020).
The rest of the episodes in the six-part anthology series are titled Raat Rani, My Beautiful Wrinkles, I Love Thane and Cutting Chai. Fatima Sana Shaikh, Bhupendra Jadawat, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Sarika, Danesh Razvi, Ahsaas Channa, Tanvi Azmi, Masaba Gupta, Ritwik Bhowmik, Prateik Babbar, Aadar Malik, Dolly Singh, Chitrangda Singh and Arshad Warsi also star in the show.
Modern Love Mumbai will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video from May 13, 2022.
In addition to the Hindi version, the American web series has also been adapted in Tamil and Telugu as Modern Love Chennai and Modern Love Hyderabad, respectively.
