Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham was just the start of a slew of big-budget projects Mohanlal will be part of. His upcoming directorial debut Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure will be made on a bigger budget and the actor talked about its current status including when he is planning to resume shooting the 3D children’s fantasy film.

Mohanlal, who had shot for 10 days for the movie, had to stall its production due to the second wave of pandemic in April. The actor in an interview with The Cue said that the team will be deleting those portions and restarting when they resume filming from December 15.

The film’s lead actress, US-based Shayla McCaffrey will also be replaced as it’s been two years since she was initially roped in to the project. Taking into account her academic schedules and her appearance now, the makers will now cast a new actress to play the role of Isabella.

Mohanlal also stated that the film will have a “meaningful message” and he wants it to be like Jijo Punnoose’s My Dear Kuttichathan for this generation of children, who will cherish watching it.

The film, which also has Prithviraj Sukumaran as part of the cast, will also have extensive CGI that will be done by a company based in Thailand, he informed.

Santosh Sivan is doing the cinematography for the movie, produced by Aashirvaad Cinemas. Earlier, Paz Vega and Rafael Amargo were also announced as part of the cast of the fantasy that revolves around a 400-year-old spirit who guards the treasure of Vasco Da Gama and a girl named Isabella.
