Those who have been lucky to catch Mohanlal and Shaji Kailas’ Narasimham in theatres in 2000 would remember the euphoria surrounding the movie – not just in Kerala theatres but also countries outside India where the film was released. It now seems that the makers of the film are gearing up to ensure that this generation of movie-goers too get to experience all of that, by re-releasing the movie.

In a recent interview during the promotions of his latest movie Kaapa, Shaji Kailas confirmed that the movie’s 4K version is ready. “It was remastered in 4K a year ago,” he said. “The initial plan was to release it through OTT platforms like Netflix during the pandemic but then, they felt it was better to release it in theatres as the younger generation will also get to experience the film on the big screen.”

The filmmaker pointed out that it’s been over two decades since the film was released and this generation of audience has only watched the movie on television. “In most TVs, you have stereo sound, but when you have Dolby surround and to experience the background, the BGM and the effects, you have to watch it in theatres. Sound designing has a lot of importance now in terms of elevating a movie,” he said, in an interview with The Cue.

Narasimham’s re-release will depend a lot on the feedback of the theatrical release of Bhadran’s Spadikam 4K version, which is set to hit the big screens again on February 9, 2023. The filmmaker has been busy for the past few years remastering the 1995 release and re-release the 4K version of the movie, with Dolby Atmos surround sound. Mohanlal essayed Poovalli Induchoodan in Narasimham, which also has Mammootty in a cameo, while in Spadikam, he played Aadu Thoma.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal and Shaji Kailas’ latest collaboration Alone, which is a lockdown thriller, is all set to hit theatres on January 26, 2023. The director is currently busy with a horror-thriller titled Hunt, which has Bhavana, Anu Mohan and G Chandunath as part of the cast.
