Judging from the trailer, Month of Madhu seems like a slice-of-life drama examining the evolving idea of romantic relationships in the country. The film seems to give an outsider perspective on the complex mix of culture, beliefs and societal pressure that influence our personal relationships.
Shreya Navile's Madhumathi is an NRI. She comes to India to take part in a cousin's wedding. However, she draws a lot of criticism and eye-rolls from her highly conservative family members and guests. Her outspokenness and extrovert nature make others uncomfortable. However, it doesn't seem to bother her and she seems to show no hurry to escape to America, where she can continue to live her life without any restrictions. Instead, she wants to stay in the country for a longer period meet new people and develop some real-life experience.
And Madhumathi meets Naveen's Madhusudhan Rao, an alcoholic, whose marriage is on the verge of collapse.
