Most-anticipated Tamil releases of January 2025: Vidaamuyarchi to Veera Dheera Sooran

Tamil cinema may not end 2024 on a high note, given major waves were not made. But that does not stop the industry for having a great line-up in January 2025 for the festive season of Pongal. Tamil cinema is gearing up for some star-studded releases, from Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi and Veera Dheera Sooran featuring Vikram. But that’s not all of it, as we will also see some small yet content driven films as well. Here is a list of Tamil films scheduled for theatrical release in January 2025.

Vidaamuyarchi

Release date: TBD

Vidaamuyarchi is an upcoming action thriller film headlined by Ajith Kumar. The film is directed by Magizh Thirumeni and also stars Trisha, Arjun Sarja, Regina Cassandra and others. While an exact release date is yet to be announced, the film is backed by Lyca Productions and has music by Anirudh Ravichander. The film recently wrapped up production. Vidaamuyarchi is expected to be sleek road-trip action drama, with a lot of stunt and racing sequences.

Good Bad Ugly

Release date: TBD

Good Bad Ugly is another Ajith Kumar-starrer which was announced for Pongal release in January 2025. However, with a new release date yet to be mentioned, the makers have remained that the film will release for the said window. Helmed by Adhik Ravichandran, Good Bad Ugly will also feature Arjun Das, Prasanna and others. Recently, BTS stills of Ajith from the sets of Good Bad Ugly went viral on social media.

Vanangaan

Release date: January 10, 2025

Vanangaan, the upcoming Tamil film starring actor Arun Vijay in the lead role is directed by Bala. The film also features Roshni Prakash, Samuthirakani, Mysskin, Ridha, Chhaya Devi, Bala Sivaji, Shanmugarajan, Yohan Chacko, Kavitha Gopi, Brindha Sarathy, Mai Pa Narayanan, Aruldas, Munish Sivagurunath and others. It is to be noted that the film was initially launched with Suriya who had to exit the project due to undisclosed reasons.

Veera Dheera Sooran

Veera Dheera Sooran is an upcoming rustic action thriller featuring Vikram in the lead role. Directed by Chithha fame SU Arun Kumar, the upcoming release is the second part with the prequel expected to be released later. The film also features Dushara Vijayan, SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and others. With GV Prakash scoring the music, Veera Dheera Sooran has camera handled by Theni Eswar and Prasanna GK as editor.

Bottle Radha

Release date: January 24, 2025

Bottle Radha is a Tamil film starring Guru Somasundaram and Sanchana Natarajan. The ensemble cast also includes John Vijay, Maaran, Antony, Pari Elavazhagan, Arumugavel, Abhi Ramaiyah, J.P. Kumar, K.S. Karuna Prasad, Malathi Ashok Nawin, Suhasini Sanjeev, Siranjivi, Oviyar Sow. Senthil, Naveen George Thomas, Aneesha, Madhavi Raj, Kaala Kumar (Jaya Perumal), Anbarasi, and Shegar Narayana. Bottle Radha is directed by Dhinakaran Sivalingam and is about a man who is severely alcoholic.

Nesippaya

Nesippaya featuring Aditi Shankar and Akash Murali in the lead roles is a romantic drama. The film is helmed by Vishnu Vardhan. Apart from the lead actors, it will also feature R Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Raja, Kushboo, and Kalki Koechlin. It is to be noted that Nesippaya marks the director's return to direction after four years since the release of his Hindi film Shershaah in 2021.

Aghathiyaa

Release date: January 31, 2025

Aghathiyaa is an upcoming Tamil film featuring actors Jiiva, Raashi Khanna, Arjun Sarja,Yogi Babu, Reddin Kingsly, Datho Radha Ravi, Edward Sonnen Blick, Matylda and others. It is written and directed by Pa Vijay and has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Aghathiyaa is touted to be a mystical thriller film.
