September will see several big-ticket movies vying to emerge as the Onam winner at the box office, with Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam and Fahadh Faasil’s Odum Kuthiran Chadum Kuthira gearing up for release. The digital space will also pitch in with its own new arrivals with Asif Ali’s heartwarming film Sarkeet and Arjun Ashokan-led spooky horror Sumathi Valavu likely to make their digital debut. Pharma 

OTT platform: JioHotstar via OTTplay Premium 

OTT release date: TBA

Nivin Pauly forays into the web series arena with Pharma, which is directed by PR Arun. Like what the title suggests, the series delves into the pharmaceutical industry as it tracks the journey of a medical representative. Another interesting factor is that pharma will have Hindi actor Rajit Kapoor in a significant role. The series is expected to release on September 5, though an official release date is yet to be announced.

Sarkeet

OTT platform: Manorama Max 

OTT release date: TBA

Actor Asif Ali played the charming Ameer in the film, which depicts his heartwarming bond with a young boy who creates much trouble for his parents with his hyperactivities. Actors Divya Prabha and Deepak Parambol play the other key roles in the film, along with child artiste Orhan. The second directorial of Thamar K V after the noted 1001 Nunakal, won positive reviews but was not a crowd-puller. The film is expected to win more love upon its digital release.

Dheeran - TBA

After playing a serial killer in Maranamass Rajesh Madhavan leads this comedy film which has a bunch of remarkable actors Jagadish, Ashokan, and Sudheesh, all known for their hilarious roles. Rajesh appears as Eldhose, the Dheeran (brave one) of his village. His rumoured death sparks a frenzy in his village, as the villagers set out to bring back his body. Bheeshma Parvam co-writer Devadath Shaji’s directorial debut is high on comedy, and deserves to be watched on OTT.

Sumathi Valavu - TBA

Arjun Ashokan leads this horror comedy, which is based on an infamous road in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram. Sumathi, a Tamil woman, who met her horrific death at this location decades ago, continues to haunt the place, as per local folklore. The film revolves around Appu and other town folks and whether they will be able to free themselves from Sumathi’s curse. The hilarious comedy and the spooky thrills of Sumathi Valavu seem to have struck a chord with the audience.

Aabhyanthara Kuttavaali -TBA

Another Asif Ali-starrer, but the one that delves into the sensitive topic of domestic abuse with men claiming to be the victims. Newly married Sahadevan is at the centre of this film, after his marital relationship takes an unexpected turn and he finds himself in court. Thulasi plays the female lead in the film, along with senior actors Jagadish and Harisree Ashokan. Aabhyanthara Kuttavaali is likely to spark a fresh set of discussions after its digital debut.

Meesha - TBA

Tamil actor Kathir best known for Pariyerum Perumal makes his Malayalam film debut with Meesha. Set in the deep forest, the gripping film follows the events after forest warden Midhun and his close friends come together for an unlikely get-together. Themes of friendship, loyalty and trust are explored in this film, which is helmed by Emcy Joseph
