While January was expected to go as planned for the Pongal festive season with Jana Nayagan releasing, the unexpected postponement of the Vijay film has shifted the release calendar. Other films took up the slot and made way to theatres. These films are expected to premiere on streaming platforms next month. Parasakthi – Reportedly on ZEE5
Parasakthi is a period political drama helmed by director Sudha Kongara. Starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role, and featuring Atharvaa, Ravi Mohan and Sreeleela, it is based on true events. Parasakthi is set in the 1960s era and revolves around the anti-Hindi agitations that took place in Tamil Nadu, instigating riots by students on the government that imposed Hindi. GV Prakash has scored music for Sivakarthikeyan’s 25th film.
Vaa Vaathiyaar – Prime Video
Vaa Vaathiyaar is a comedy drama putting a cinematic spin to the superhero genre. Headlined by Karthi and directed by filmmaker Nalan Kumarasamy, Vaa Vaathiyaar is about an ardent MGR fan who believes that his grandson is a reincarnation of the superstar. However, when the latter grows up to be a corrupt cop, situations force him to become MGR as his alter ego as crime takes place. Actors Rajkiran, Krithi Shetty, Sathyaraj, Anandraj and others are part of the film.
Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil – OTT platform yet to be confirmed
The Jiiva-starrer Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil is a rural drama with emotions and comedy at the forefront. Directed by Falimy filmmaker Nithish Sahadev in his directorial debut in Tamil, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil revolves around a local panchayat leader who is overseeing wedding. However, when a death occurs in the house next door and the neighbours are adamant that they conduct their respective wedding and funeral at the same time, the protagonist must balance this without taking sides. Thambi Ramaiya, Ilavarasu, Prathana Nathan, Jensen Dhivakar, Jaiwanth, Sarjin Kumar, Rajesh Pandian, Subash Kannan, Amith Mohan, Anuraj OB, Sharath, Savithri and others form the cast.
Hot Spot 2 Much - OTT platform yet to be confirmed
Hot Spot 2 Much is an upcoming hyperlink film which is a follow-up sequel to Vignesh Karthik’s earlier film Hot Spot. The second part features a bigger cast, including Priya Bhavani Shankar, MS Baaskar, Thambi Ramaiah, Rakshan, Ashwin Kumar, Aadhitya Baaskar, Bhavani Sre, Brigida Saga, Sanjana Tiwari, and others. Much like the first part, Hot Spot 2 will also touch upon some taboo topics.
Draupathi 2 – OTT platform yet to be confirmed
Draupathi 2 is an upcoming historical sequence to director Mohan G's Draupathi. This film is expected to explore the kingdoms that existed in India once upon a time and the invasion of Mughal rulers. Actors Richard Rishi, Rakshana Induchoodan, Natty Natraj, Vela Ramamoorthy, Chirag Jani, Dinesh Lamba, are part of the film.
