Fans of legendary comedian Vadivelu were excited when the actor announced his return to filmdom after a hiatus of a few years. He had made it clear that he will be making a comeback with Suraj's Naai Sekar Returns, a spin-off of Thalai Nagaram which the filmmaker made in 2006.
Naai Sekar was the title the team had considered for the movie, but another project, starring Sathish in the lead, having registered the same name a while ago made Suraj and others come up with the title Naai Sekar Returns. The film bankrolled by Lyca Productions was released in theatres in the second week of December.
The movie had opened to poor reviews from critics and the audience, thanks to weak screenplay and much-hyped comedy scenes falling flat. It did not come as a surprise for those who watched the film's unengaging trailer which garnered criticism for forced homour scenes and lukewarm one-liners.
Apart from Vadivelu's presence, Santhosh Narayanan's music was another aspect which helped the film attain hype among moviegoers. However, his work, too, wasn't praiseworthy, leaving cinephiles disappointed. The presence of Redin Kingsley, Manobala, Munishkanth, Anandraj and Lollu Sabha Maaran did not help the movie.
Naai Sekar Returns is now ready for an OTT premiere; the movie will drop on Netflix on January 6. Sivaangi Krishnakumar, Shivani Narayanan and Rao Ramesh among others have essayed key roles in the film which revolves around a middle-aged man who is expert in kidnapping dogs.
But he lands in soup after he locks horns with a dreaded don. How his life changes afterwards forms the rest of the story.
