Telugu producer Naga Vamsi has kicked up quite a debate with his comments that the Malayalam blockbuster film Lokah would have been a big flop if it were a direct Telugu release. His video is doing the rounds on social media, with a section of the netizens agreeing with him, while another set believes that producers should be more responsible and not blame the viewers for flops. Here’s a look at how netizens have been reacting to Lokah flop comments of Naga Vamsi, who has produced hit films such as Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo starring Allu Arjun.
Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra is a 2025 Malayalam movie, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan as a superhero, which has become an all-time blockbuster hit and had a good run in Telugu states as well. But now Telugu producer Naga Vamsi is of the opinion that if Lokah had released in Telugu directly, it would have been a flop. He made the controversial comments during the promotions of the upcoming film, Mass Jathara, starring Ravi Teja.
“If Lokah was made in Telugu, people would have complained that the story has lag and that it lacks span,” the producer was quoted as saying by 123Telugu. He went on to say that he was sure that the audiences would have made the movie a failure. He claimed that was even ready to change his name, if that did not happen, adding that “We really don’t understand what Telugu people like.”
But some netizens did not take his words kindly, with one comment reading, “Instead of complaining about the "telugu" audience, better work on movies.” Yet another person said, “If movie like lokah made in Telugu it would have grossed 500c.”
It also sparked a language fight with some drawing comparisons between Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu audiences. One person said, "Only tamil audience who make lot of complaints about movie not telugu"
But some netizens agreed to his thought, commenting '100' and 'agreed'. "Obviously. Lokah was not a good movie," and "True! But make it in another language, add subtitles, and suddenly it's ‘cinema with depth'" read comments in support of Naga Vamsi.
Reddit forums also keenly debated his comments with some finding that the Kalyani Priyadarshan movie was 'overrated' and 'hyped'.
"Ya true ,but what he said about lokah was absolutely right.Tbh most of the malyalam films are overrated thanks tfi audience who made them overrated. And the malyali audience thinks that their industry only knows how to make films," wrote one netizen.
"I can understand how they blamed audience, but to the extent if you see the point made on lokah is correct ( no offense). The film is good but ofcourse it has its drawbacks right?," read yet another comment on Reddit.
Notably, Naga Vamsi’s banner had released the Telugu version of Lokah in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and reaped the benefits. Lokah is produced by Malayalam actor-producer Dulquer Salmaan, who has starred in successful films in Telugu as well. DQ's last Telugu film was Lucky Baskhar, which was produced by Naga Vamsi, who has also backed other popular films such as DJ Tillu, Kingdom, and Mad.
