A month ago, team Sardar had announced the PS Mithran directorial, starring Karthi in the lead, will release in theatres during Deepavali festival in October. The movie has been produced by S Lakshman Kumar under the banner of Prince Pictures. Sardar was the first Kollywood film to announce arrival for the festival.

Now, Tollywood star Nagarjuna's production company Annapurna Studios has acquired the distribution rights of the movie in Telugu states. Fans of Karthi and other film lovers are now looking forward to the exact release date of the action drama.

It is known that a few films of Karthi have gone on to become money spinners at Tollywood box office. Director Mithran's debut film Irumbu Thirai (Abhimanyudu in Telugu), too, was a notable venture among the Telugu audience. Sardar is Mithran's third directorial venture after Vishal-starrer Irumbu Thirai (streaming on Zee5) and Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Hero (streaming on Amazon Prime Video).

Sardar will take on Sivakarthikeyan's Prince at the Tamil box office; the latter, too, is said to be having a simultaneous release in Telugu. Sardar, which revolves around a police officer setting out to rescue his father from a prison, has music composed by GV Prakash. Raashi Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan play female lead roles in the project which has Chunky Panday essaying the antagonist. The movie marks the Bollywood actor's Tamil debut.

Laila, Munishkanth, Ashwin and Yog Japi are others who will be seen playing important characters in the movie which has cinematography by George C Williams and editing by Ruben. Dileep Subbarayan and Kathir have handled stunt choreography and art direction respectively.

Sardar will be Karthi's second release during the pandemic era; his first release post COVID-19 was Sulthan (streaming on Amazon Prime Video) which was released in theatres more than a year.
