In Namastey London, Jazz (Katrina Kaif), whose real name is Jasmeet, is a young Indian woman who is seeing an English boy and resides in London. Her father (Rishi Kapoor) weds her off to Arjun (Akshay Kumar), a farmer who is both humorous and level-headed, because he hates her carefree lifestyle. Jazz continues to ridicule Arjun despite his best attempts. This romantic comedy delves into the conflict between emotions and questions whether love is primarily about giving or taking.
The film's inspiration came from a true story that Akshay's friend lived.
Released on March 23, 2007, Namastey London was well-received by critics for its directing, script, and score, with special mention given to the critically lauded performance by Akshay Kumar and the album's music by Himesh Reshammiya. The album received positive reviews and did well on the charts; several of the tracks were even number one singles. Additionally, it became the tenth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2007 after collecting ₹71.40 crore globally. The film's popularity broke a lengthy streak of box office bombs that began with January 2007's Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love.
Meanwhile, despite the director's denials, some critics found parallels in the film to Manoj Kumar's 1970 film Purab Aur Paschim.
