Telugu star Nani is likely to join hands with director TJ Gnanavel of Vettaiyan fame, although an official confirmation is awaited.

It's worth noting that Nani is a self-proclaimed fan of Gnanavel's career-making directorial venture, Jai Bhim. Starring Suriya in the lead role, Jai Bhim was released directly on streaming in 2021, owing to the pandemic.

Jai Bhim was an instant sensation, with the film garnering glowing reviews from across the country. Inspired by real-life events, the film delved into how deeply entrenched caste bias in the country's criminal justice system makes the lives of the less fortunate and underprivileged a living hell.

In Jai Bhim, Suriya played a firebrand lawyer who uses the legal framework to bring justice to those who have been wronged. The film was touted to sweep awards, including National Awards. However, when the film was snubbed by the awards committee, Nani was one of the first leading members of the Telugu film fraternity to express his disappointment.

He took to his social media accounts and reacted with a broken heart emoji to express his displeasure after Jai Bhim failed to win any awards at the National Film Awards.

Vettaiyan to hit screens soon

Meanwhile, Gnanavel is busy shooting Vettaiyan with Superstar Rajinikanth playing the lead role. The production of the movie is ongoing as the filmmakers aim to release it in cinemas this year.

Lyca Productions confirmed that Vettaiyan will open in cinemas worldwide in October, although the producers are yet to zero in on the actual release date.

In Vettaiyan, Rajinikanth plays a cop. Based on the teaser for the film, the protagonist is likely to be an encounter specialist. The film boasts an all-star supporting cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Dushara Vijayan, among others.
