Megastar Mammootty would be looking to continue his stellar run that began with Bheeshmaparvam last year. He is next gearing up for the release of Angamaly Diairies and Jallikattu director Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam.

Last year, the actor had a healthy mix of movies – a ‘mass’ gangster film in Bheeshma Parvam, an acclaimed OTT debut in Puzhu, a new-age thriller in Rorschach and a riveting sequel in CBI 5: The Brain.

In a recent interview for digital media, ahead of his upcoming film’s release, the megastar was asked if there is a particular kind of movie that he enjoys most compared to others and he said, “I am someone who enjoys acting, not characters. Otherwise, I would be an insincere artiste. If I say that I don’t enjoy acting in movies like Pokkiri Raja, I am a liar. I enjoy that as well as this (Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam). I love acting, more than the magnitude of the characters.”

Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, which had its premiere at the International Film Festival of Kerala, was lauded by those who had watched the movie, with some claiming it as the megastar’s best performance in the past few years.

The film, scripted by S Hareesh, revolves around a group of Malayalis who are returning to Kerala from Tamil Nadu and have to stop at a village in the State. James, who is one among them, starts behaving erratically and begins displaying behaviour of a villager named Sundaram, who had been missing for several decades.

The movie is also produced by Mammootty and is set to hit theatres in Kerala on January 19. The film also has Ramya Pandian and Ashokan in pivotal roles. Meanwhile, Mammootty’s next release will be the investigative thriller Christopher, which is helmed by B Unnikrishnan. The film is set to hit theatres on February 9.
