It's been a year since Pa Ranjith's last outing Sarpatta Parambarai (streaming on Amazon Prime Video) released. The movie based on the life of a few boxers in north Madras in the 70s skipped theatrical release. The filmmaker's last release in theatres was Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala (streaming on Disney+ Hotstar).
He is now ready with his latest film Natchathiram Nagargiradhu, starring Kalidas Jayaram and Dushara Vijayan in lead roles. The first look of the movie and a promo video which were unveiled recently are more than enough for film lovers to wait for its release.
Ranjith has now announced that the movie which is billed as a unique love story, which also touches upon various pertinent issues including caste discrimination and sexism, will hit the screens on August 31. Dushara and Kalaiyarasan who have played notable roles in Ranjith's earlier projects are part of the movie.
Hari Krishnan, Vinoth and Subathra Robert among others, too, essay crucial characters in the project which has Tenma composing music. This is the first film of Ranjith which doesn't have music by Santhosh Narayanan owing to an alleged rift between the two.
Kishor Kumar and Selva RK have handled cinematography and editing respectively for the film which has Stunner Sam choreographing action sequences and Sandy composing dance moves. Vikram's much-awaited actioner Cobra and Mysskin's horror thriller Pisasu 2 are also expected to release in theatres on August 31.
Movie buffs are eagerly waiting to know which among the three films will finally make it to theatres. Cobra, which was supposed to release on August 11, was postponed owing to delay in post-production works. It will be a huge treat for cinephiles if at all the three of them manage to hit the screens on the same day.
