And the countdown begins! The most-awaited winners-list of the 69th annual National Film Awards will be declared today evening in New Delhi. From Best Actor, Best Actress to Best Film, winners in multiple awards categories will be announced.

Ahead of the release of the winners list, speculations are rife on social media that either Alia Bhatt or Kangana Ranaut might bag the prize under the Best Actress category.

While Alia Bhatt can win the award for her performance in movies namely Gangubai Kathiawadi, Darlings, Brahmastra, and RRR. All these movies were highly appreciated by critics in the year 2022.

Kangana Ranaut, on the other hand, played a spy in the action film Dhaakad in 2022. Her role in the movie was appreciated by several critics. Soon, Ranaut will next portray an Indian Air Force pilot in the drama Tejas, Indira Gandhi in her directorial project, Emergency, and will star in a sequel to the 2005 Tamil film Chandramukhi.

Some netizens also feel that actress Taapsee Pannu can also bag a national award under this category for her performance in Shabaash Mithu – a film loosely based on the life of Indian cricketer Mithali Raj.

Last year, the Tamil film Soorarai Pottru won the prestigious national award in five categories namely Best Feature Film, Best Actor for Suriya, Best Actress for Aparna Balamurali, Best Music Direction (Score) for G V Prakash Kumar, and Best Original Screenplay for Sudha Kongara.

Suriya shared his Best Actor win with Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn, who won the awards for Tanhaji. Asha Parekh was hounoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2022.

The foremost film award ceremony in India is the National Film Awards. Its inception dates back to 1954, and since 1973, it has been overseen by the Indian government's Directorate of Film Festivals, alongside the International Film Festival of India and the Indian Panorama, solidifying its significance in the industry.
