Annapoorani, directed by Nilesh Krishnaa, reunites Raja Rani duo of Nayanthara and Jai on-screen after almost a decade

The makers of Lady Superstar Nayanthara’s 75th film took to their social media handles to announce its title as well as reveal the first glimpse of the Nilesh Krishnaa directorial. The film has been titled Annapoorani and will mark the collaboration of Raja Rani duo of Jai and Nayanthara after almost a decade.
Is Nayanthara playing a foodie in Annapoorani?
The first glimpse of the film showcased Nayanthara’s character, reading what seems to be an academic book, in what seems to be a Brahmin household. As the camera zooms in on the book, it becomes evident that the character is actually perusing a cookbook. The sneak-peek video hint that Annapoorani centres around its characters’ love for cooking and food.
Apart from Nayanthara, the movie features Sathyaraj, Jai and Redin Kinsley. The project commenced with a traditional pooja ceremony in 2022, and is backed by director Pa Ranjith’s production house, Naad Sstudios, in collaboration with Zee Studios and Trident Arts. Composer Thaman is behind the music production of the film, which has Sathyan Sooryan as its cinematographer.
Director Nilesh Krishnaa on working with Nayanthara
Sharing his experience of working with Nayanthara, Nilesh, in an interview said, “This film is a significant milestone for Nayanthara and carries an important responsibility. Her off-screen persona commands immense respect, which is also central to the film’s narrative.”
Though it will see Jai and Nayanthara sharing screen space again, the filmmaker said that he has ensured that their characters are different from what the audience saw in ‘Raja Rani’ and their on-screen chemistry is also unique in the film. Achyuth Kumar portrays Nayanthara's father in the film.
Meanwhile, Nayanthara, who is basking in the success of Atlee’s Jawan that also marked her Bollywood debut, is reportedly in talks to play the lead in Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan’s upcoming collaboration. Her latest movie, Iraivan, is all set to release on Netflix on October 26.
Lady Superstar’s upcoming projects
On the work front, the actress has several projects coming up. She has been shooting for Mannangatti Since 1960, which is written and directed by YouTuber-turned-filmmaker Dude Vicky. She will also be playing the female lead in Sashikanth’s upcoming spirits drama Test, which also stars Madhavan and Siddharth in the leads.
