Neela Nira Sooriyan out on OTT: Where to stream Samyuktha Vijayan’s Tamil film on gender transition

Neela Nira Sooriyan, the 2024 Tamil film starring Samyuktha Vijayan in the lead role, is now available for streaming on Aha Tamil and OTTplay Premium app. The film is also written and directed by Samyuktha in her directorial debut.

Neela Nira Sooriyan is a Tamil film which released in theatres in 2024. The film revolves around a high-school teacher’s transition from a male to female, as it talks about how the central protagonist wades through reactions from her home and professional space. The film stars Seattle-based Samyuktha Vijayan in the lead role, who has also written and directed the film in her maiden outing.

After its limited theatrical run last year, Neela Nira Sooriyan has made its OTT debut. The film is available for streaming on Aha Tamil. You can use OTTplay Premium subscription to watch the film. Mala Manyan has produced the film under the banner First Copy Productions. Apart from Samyuktha Vijayan, the film also stars Kitty Krishnamoorthy, Geetha Kailasam, Masanth Natajan, Semmalar Annam and others. The technical crew is also limited, with Steev Benjamin working as cinematographer, editor and composer of Neela Nira Sooriyan. Although it had a small opening at the time of its release, the film received positive reception for its truthful and empathetic storytelling and representation.

What else to watch on OTTplay Premium this week?

Another Tamil film Kudumbasthan, starring actors Manikandan, Sanvee, Guru Somasundaram and others, has also released on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium. The film is a comedy drama about a young man who is the bread-winner of his family, losing out on his job. Directed by Rajeshwar Kalisamy, it opened to positive reception.

Meanwhile, you can also stream Malayalam crime thriller drama Rekhachithram, in Tamil on SonyLIV. Helmed by Jofin T. Chacko who has taken the script from John Manthrikal, it is based on a story by Ramu Sunil. The film has actors Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan in the lead roles, whose performances in the film were lauded.
