Netflix wins big in February 2025, bags OTT rights of Dragon and Officer On Duty

Netflix seems to be on a roll these days, bagging rights of major Indian movies, especially from the south. The streaming giant began 2025 with a banger as Pushpa 2: The Rule made its big OTT release on Netflix on January 30, 2025. Now, continuing the trend in February with Nandamuri Balakrishna's Daaku Maharaaj making its release. Not just that, Netflix has secured the OTT rights of Kunchacko Boban's Malayalam film Officer On Duty and Pradeep Ranganathan's Dragon, a Tamil movie. Both films were released in February 2025 in theatres and have been seeing positive responses.

Officer On Duty on Netflix

Kunchacko Boban’s cop thriller Officer On Duty, was released in theatres on February 20, 2025, to largely positive reviews from the critics. Netflix has bagged the OTT rights to this Malayalam thriller, which also stars Priyamani, Jagadish, and Vishak Nair. Though the platform is yet to announce the streaming date, Officer On Duty could land on the platform on March 20, 2025, following the practice of a one-month window between theatre and OTT release.

The Malayalam film, helmed by Jithu Ashraf, is winning over the audiences with its gripping narrative. Notably, the movie is scripted by Shahi Kabir, who had previously penned Nayattu and Joseph, both of which garnered praise.

Dragon

Pradeep Ranganathan stars in the lead role in Dragon. Helmed by Ashwath Marimuthu, this coming-of-age film follows Ragavan, who takes the disastrous decision to abandon his studies after a breakup. Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar also star in this film, which is winning positive feedback for the performance of its lead cast. 

Netflix has secured the streaming rights of this Tamil film, which is expected to land on the platform after its theatrical run ends.

Daaku Maharaaj on Netflix

The big release on Netflix from South in February 2025 is Daaku Maharaaj, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna. The Telugu film, which emerged to be a decent hit at the box office, started streaming on the platform on February 2. Apart from Telugu, the film is also av ailable to stream in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
